Family Vacation FAQs
Most families choose 3-4 days for their vacation. This leaves enough time to participate in multiple adventures, while still having some downtime to relax or explore local attractions. We’ve even seen families camp out for a week to really make the most of their Northwoods vacation. If you’re on a tight schedule, no worries — we’ll customize your adventure schedule to work within your timeframe.
Absolutely. Kids as young as 5 can participate in adventures here at Wildman! Our encouraging and professional guides LOVE introducing kids to the power of outdoor recreation, even if it’s their first time.
Some of the best activities for young kids are the Kayak Lake Tour or Stand-Up Paddleboard, where they can ride on the same craft as an adult chaperone while still getting to be out on the water. Kids also love the Alpine Climbing Tower, where they can try out different obstacle courses of varying difficulties while listening to encouragement from their family on the ground. Want to introduce them to whitewater rafting? Kids as young as 5 years old can go on our Menominee River whitewater rafting trip! They’ll get to play games and splash through small rapids, but avoid the largest rapids by sitting out with a chaperone and cheering the rest of the group on from the shore.
There sure are! We’re all about “challenge by choice,” in whatever terms that means for your family. While whitewater rafting is one of our most popular and thrilling activities, we’ve got you covered for some low-key fun as well. Families can enjoy calm kayak tours on High Falls Flowage, family-friendly stand-up paddleboarding on the Peshtigo River, short waterfalls hikes, scenic strolls along the river, and relaxed evenings by the fire. Even higher-energy activities are designed to be encouraging and confidence-building, not intimidating. Our guides meet families where they’re at, helping everyone feel comfortable and supported. You can make your vacation as adventurous or as relaxing as you want.
Teens LOVE the authentic adventures at Wildman like whitewater rafting (try out both rivers!), rock climbing, paintball, and ziplining. Families with teens aged 15 and older can even take on the Wild Ride, a whitewater rafting trip down the Menominee River in a tiny 10-foot raft that’s private to just your family and your guide.
Most families visit between mid-June to mid-August while kids are out of school. However, our adventure season runs all the way from mid-April to early October! Families who can sneak up north during the shoulder season are rewarded with huge rapids on the Peshtigo River in spring, or spectacular foliage in the fall.
