Frequently Asked Questions
Wildman Adventure Resort offers rafting on the Menominee and Peshtigo Rivers – each delivering a unique experience. The Menominee River features big, splashy rapids perfect for thrill-seekers in the Upper Peninsula, while the Peshtigo River offers a more technical, individually challenging paddle through Wisconsin’s Northwoods.
Whitewater rafting at Wildman is suitable for first-timers and experienced rafters alike! We provide all necessary safety gear, an experienced guide, and handle the logistics — all you need to do is show up ready to get wet!
Each river is challenging in its own way! The Menominee River boasts a short but intense stretch of class 4 rapids that you’ll get to run twice, paddling as a group in an 8-person or 4-person raft with a guide in the back. The Peshtigo River offers nearly continuous rapids across a 3-mile stretch. Conditions on the Menominee River range from a scenic flatwater float up to a stretch of class 4 whitewater rapids through Piers Gorge State Park. Rafters on the Peshtigo River will experience class 1 to class 3 rapids, paddling in their own single-person raft, following their guides through rapids and around rocks.
Both rafting trips average about 3 hours from gear up to gear down. This time can vary due to weather, group size, or river conditions! For example, trips can be closer to 2 hours in the spring due to high, fast moving water. In late summer or fall, or on larger trips, this can average closer to 4 hours.
When you book a whitewater rafting trip with Wildman, all you need to do is show up ready for an adventure! We provide a PFD (lifejacket), helmet, paddle, an experienced guide, and all transportation to and from the river. Before Memorial Day and after Labor Day, wetsuits, neoprene booties, and splash jackets are included with the trip price. Cold-water gear is available for rent all season long.
Closed-toe shoes are required on all rafting trips. Check out our blog about what to wear whitewater rafting for more information!
The minimum age to raft on the Peshtigo River is 9 years old. The minimum age to raft on the Menominee River is 5 years old, and youth must be 12 years old to raft through the class 4 section. Any youth between the ages of 5 and 11 will portage the class 4 section of the Menominee River with a chaperone.
There are no weight restrictions to go whitewater rafting at Wildman. Our PFDs expand up to 58 inches in circumference around the chest. As long as the PFD fits, we’d love to have you raft with us! In summer, the Peshtigo River can become more difficult for heavier guests due to the shallow, rocky nature of the river. Contact us directly for help picking the best adventure for your group.
