Is this Adventure for Me?
Can I Go Rafting at Wildman Adventure Resort?
If you have enough adventurous spirit to have read this far, the answer is a resounding YES! At Wildman Adventure Resort, we believe almost anyone can enjoy the outdoor adventure they’ve been dreaming of. As both an action photographer and guide here, I’ve seen people of all ages and physical abilities have an unforgettable time. Our experienced guides are trained to provide a unique and tailored experience for every guest, ensuring you feel safe and well cared for while embarking on what could be a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Still on the fence? Let’s break it down a bit more:
Rafting the Menominee River: Is It Right for Me?
If you’re wondering whether you can raft the Menominee River, the answer is most likely yes! As long as you’re over the age of five, you’re welcome to join us on this thrilling adventure. The only exception is for guests under 12, who must briefly hop off the raft during the Class 4 rapid section. But don’t worry—you’ll still be in on the action! Those under 12 (along with a guardian) will take a scenic hike through the beautiful trails of Pier’s Gorge State Park, where they can watch the excitement unfold from the safety of the cliffs in northern Michigan.
For younger adventurers, the Menominee River still offers engaging raft games, opportunities to swim in calm waters, and thrilling rapids ranging from Class 1 to Class 3. Beyond the minimum age, there are no age limits here—you’re never too old to enjoy a great time on the river! After all, we’re all young at heart when we’re on the water, right?
In terms of physical ability, rafting on the Menominee River is a team effort. Our skilled guides strategically seat guests to ensure the boat remains balanced and strong, so varying levels of physical ability won’t hold anyone back from having an incredible experience. From what I’ve witnessed, the most physically challenging part of this trip is the quarter-mile hike between runs through Piers Gorge, which does have some incline and rocky terrain.
Not a strong swimmer? No problem! With our thorough safety talks, boat re-entry demonstrations (in the form of fun games), and mandatory personal flotation devices (PFDs), you don’t have to be able to swim to enjoy a fantastic day on the river.
Rafting the Peshtigo River: What to Expect
The Peshtigo River offers over three miles of exciting rapids, with each guest paddling their own vessel. It can be a bit of a workout at times, but don’t let that deter you! I’ve seen adventurers of all ages and physical abilities have a blast while taking in the stunning scenery. (Pro tip: Keep an eye out for the local Bald Eagles—I’ve captured some amazing shots of them while photographing rafters!) Like the Menominee, our guides are dedicated to leading you down the river in the most thrilling way while ensuring everyone feels confident and comfortable.
While the Peshtigo River offers a more intense experience, it’s still accessible to those without swimming experience, thanks to our expert guides and safety measures. However, please note that the Peshtigo River has an age minimum of nine years old.
Nervous About Zip Lining? We’ve Got You Covered!
Maybe you’re considering our zip line adventure, but you’re feeling a bit nervous. First of all, if you’ve made it this far in the blog, give yourself a pat on the back. Can you do that no problem? Great! Chances are, you’ll do wonderfully on our unique hand-braking zip line system. Up in the sky at Wildman, guests zip through the air while controlling their speed, braking, and steering. Before heading up, each guest goes through a “ground school” to ensure they are well-informed and confident.
To ensure a safe and comfortable experience for all, our zip line does have a weight requirement: a minimum of 55 lbs and a maximum of 300 lbs. But don’t worry! Our team is here to guide and support you every step of the way.
Adventure Awaits at Wildman Adventure Resort!
As someone who came to Wildman with nerves of my own, I totally get it. These adventures can seem intimidating at first, but that’s what makes them so incredibly rewarding. There’s something heartwarming about watching guests come in—sometimes unsure, sometimes nervous—and then leave feeling proud and ready to share their adventure stories with friends and family. Honestly, that’s a big part of why I’m proud to work at Wildman Adventure Resort. Here, we strive to ensure that all guests, regardless of experience level, age, or confidence coming in, have a supportive and exhilarating experience that they will remember fondly for years.
If you’re ready to push your boundaries and create some unforgettable memories, check out our rafting options or explore our other adventures. We can’t wait to see you out there!
